Heritage Protection Group is an international consortium of experienced consul­tants and engineers who focus on specialized solutions for fire protection, life safety and security in cultural heritage properties.  The group provides facility owners, managers and design professionals with an unbiased, single source, process action team that is dedicated to reduction of fire and security risk, and the preser­vation of the client organization's mission. 

 

Heritage Protection Group members provide more than 140 years of combined experienced in many facets of cultural property operations and protection including fire engineering, facility management and operations, education, conservation, and security.  The experience which team members have includes involvement in the protection national libraries and museums, federal archives, local and national historic building, and world heritage sites.  Among the many recognizable structures which this team has provided innovative fire protection are: The Library of Congress (U.S.), The National Libraries of Canada, Scotland, Ireland and Britain, the United States Capitol, the Scottish Supreme Court, The National Archives of Canada, the National Galleries of the United States and Scotland, and Numerous United States National Park Service Historic Structures.

 

Fire safety is a multi-faceted discipline encompassing fire prevention, limiting and controlling fire spread, early identification and warning, emergency evacuation, fire fighter access, fire suppression, and emergency recovery.  In heritage properties the fire process must include careful interface with security operations and needs.  Where restoration and rehabilitation work is undertaken the desired level of fire and life safety must be maintained while allowing continued operation of the facility’s mission.  In recognition of these needs HPG services include:
